The fact that you can make mistakes while washing your clothes, most have discovered at the latest at the famous red sock ;-). Or when the beloved cashmere sweater just fit the doll … Today it’s not about the correct temperature or the perfect spin, but some mistakes that you can make otherwise.
So, let’s go:
Error 1: Too much detergent
“Pfff, a lot helps a lot” – that’s what I’ve always thought, but there are a few rules that should be followed. Because: too much detergent is firstly very expensive and secondly it harms the environment. As the consumption of the detergent increases, so does the water consumption of the machine – over-dosed detergent causes the laundry to foam considerably and additional rinsing with clear water becomes necessary. In addition, despite the rinsing, detergent residues can remain on the clothes, which not only damage the garments, but also the skin, which is a problem especially for allergy sufferers and people with atopic dermatitis.
Error 2: Too little detergent
Was somehow clear But too little detergent can not only stains do not disappear, it also has other consequences: If you take too little, not only suffers the washing effect but also the laundry. Lime can deposit in it and increase the wear of things. It becomes less absorbent and smells unpleasant over time as bacteria are not completely removed.
And what is right now? How much detergent do I need?
How much detergent is needed depends on three factors:
1. Degree of contamination of the laundry.
2. Local water hardness.
3. Amount of laundry in the drum.
Point 1 is self-explanatory: Right, really dirty laundry needs more washing powder than a sweater.
Point 2: If you have hard water, you need more detergent – on most detergent packaging recommendations are recommended for the dosage of hard water.
Point 3: If the laundry drum is larger or smaller than usual, the amount of detergent must be adjusted accordingly.
Error 3: Incorrect filling of the washing machine
In the instructions of the washing machine, there is information about the maximum amount of laundry – but this is usually stated in kilos and that makes (me) not really smart. Because it says nothing about how full the washing machine drum is when it was filled with 4.5 kilograms. Because textiles such as towels, socks and sweaters are different in their volume. Let’s think in practical terms: Laundry will be optimally clean if sufficient movement of the textiles in the drum is ensured. So do not weigh laundry, but look how much space it consumes. As a rule of thumb, the top of the drum should still a hand upright fits (laundry loose in the drum, hand does not press on it). For wool and delicates, the drum should be left a little emptier so that they do not rub against each other so much.
Error 4: Do not align the washing machine
Now a topic that is not about the laundry, but about the machine:
It’s actually quite simple – the washing machine has to stand straight. The grader, the longer it lasts! Otherwise there will be an imbalance during the skid, which will bring the good piece very quickly into the eternal washing machine grounds. But even the ground can be damaged by the vibrations and a moving machine is not really great either.
The solution: Place the spirit level on the machine and adjust the feet exactly. If that does not help, a piece of plywood or a plastic mat can often absorb the biggest vibrations.
Error 5: Waiting between the dryer phases
The dryer is ready, is cleared and an hour later it is raised again. Not optimal. It is much more efficient to reload the dryer immediately as it can use the heat from the previous cycle and thus reduce energy consumption.
Error 6: Do not use crease protection
Most dryers have it: the crease protection. For many devices, the function Easy Light / Anti-crease can be selected. The heating power is reduced and a smooth movement rhythm is selected to prevent creasing.
The less in the dryer, the less wrinkle. And if the underwear is nice and warm: fold and put it away at the same time and not just throw it in a heap. This saves ironing!
Error 7: Do not clean the dryer
Regular cleaning is particularly important, otherwise the drying process can take much longer. This of course means a higher energy consumption. In addition to cleaning the lint filter and emptying the water tank, it is important to take the exhaust hose or the heat exchanger before. For an exhaust air dryer, the exhaust hose must be checked for deposits. The condenser dryer requires cleaning of the heat exchanger. But attention: After that, the heat exchanger must be dried well again before inserting!
Error 8: Too much stain
Scrub dial is the stain worse or the fabric worn out. Keep a cool head in case of stains and treat it directly. The faster, the bigger the success!
But muscle lard rarely works!
Error 9: Leave zips open
Banal but logical: In the washing machine, the small zipper teeth look like little teeth. And who likes to nibble on his laundry?
Error 10: Close buttons
What counts with the zipper, is the opposite with the buttons: in the buttoned-up state they break faster or tear out. So always open the buttons!
